William Yong was born in Hong Kong. The eldest of three children. Not being from a wealthy background, he grew up in a 500 sq.ft. apartment of a Kowloon estate, cramped with 5 other family members. William was outgoing and energetic with diverse interests. Despite his family's limited means, they always strove to support his creative activities. Through his involvement with the hong kong children's choir and his representation of his school in singing competitions, his main focus became singing. He accumulated many trophies in these competitions and this led to his joining a school band called 'Fundamental'.
